The Origin Story

I learned this inside the room,
not above it.

I’m an organizational strategist and theologian in Durham, North Carolina. For fourteen years I served inside congregations — administration, operations, staff, budgets, the parts nobody puts on a slide.

What I kept seeing was not a shortage of faith or effort. It was structure. Committees that could stall a decision without ever making one. Calendars that protected everything except the work the mission depended on. Reporting lines that made honesty expensive.

Theology gave me the language for it. Stewardship is not primarily about money; it is the care of a design entrusted to you. When a system consistently harms the people inside it, that is a stewardship question before it is a management one.

Now I work with pastors, nonprofit leaders, and founders who are done blaming their people. Churches remain my deepest expertise; the ideas travel further than that.

I’ve spent years studying what separates leaders who keep moving from leaders who stall — and building the frameworks to close that gap. That work shows up in my coaching, my speaking, and every venture in the Ezekiel Taylor ecosystem.

I’m a pastor, doctoral researcher, and builder. And I’m convinced: when leaders move forward, everything they lead moves with them.

  • Led one of the largest youth programs in the region, growing it through discipleship and leadership development
  • Served in worship, digital, communications, and administrative leadership, giving me a full 360° view of church systems
  • Serial entrepreneur — previously founded and operated two businesses: a ministry consulting agency and a creative media company.
  • Built Apple Raleigh 1’s first media team, designing and managing a multi-disciplinary creative staff for their weekly communications; partnered with Employee Engagement to capture events, oversee visual storytelling, and lead a team of photographers, videographers, designers, and project leaders

A Premature Call

Before the sermons and before the spiritual journey of a nine-year-old boy, the story of Ezekiel Taylor began with a fight for life itself. Born a full 14 weeks early, his entry into the world was not just a birth but a battle. This premature beginning, a struggle of profound fragility, set the stage for a life defined by resilience.

By the age of eight, this fight had already shaped his purpose, leading him to serve as the March of Dimes 2007 National Ambassador. In this role, he traveled across the country, sharing his story with thousands of people and even meeting with President George W. Bush at the White House.  His life’s work began not in a pulpit, but on a national platform, advocating for others who faced similar struggles, demonstrating an innate, God-given calling to serve others long before he would fully grasp it.

The Weight of the call....

There is a moment in every genuine life when the curated self gives way to the soul’s deepest hunger. For some, this moment arrives as a rebellion against a structured past; for others, it is the quiet recognition that the life they have been handed is not the one they were meant to live. For Ezekiel Taylor, that moment came not from a life of sin, but from a life steeped in the church. This is not a story of a boy who strayed and was found, but of a seeker who was already inside the house of faith and discovered he wanted to know the homeowner personally. This is a journey that began with a spiritual void and is now being meticulously, intentionally built by the hand of God.

Spiritual Aches......

The world saw the son of a preacher as a boy born into a life of faith, with every spiritual blessing bestowed upon him from the cradle. Yet, for a young Ezekiel, the reality was a subtle, profound disconnect. He was a preacher’s kid who knew the songs and had heard the stories, but he wanted to “really know God”. He was a boy who “preached and played church, singing, and praising,” but felt a spiritual longing. 

This spiritual distance was not a rebellion, but a longing. While other children might have desired to leave home and “experience life,” he longed for a different kind of freedom….the freedom to know God for himself. He craved something “more profound than Sunday morning and Wednesday nights,” a desire to study God’s word and grasp its context, history, and stories.

The most powerful realization of this spiritual hunger was his poignant reflection: “I wish I could say I lived a life of sin and God transformed me, but the truth is I lived a life of the church, and I wanted to go deeper to get to know the God we preached about, sing about, and praised”. It was not a journey from darkness to light, but from a state of accepted, inherited faith to a profound, personal truth.

This quiet desperation built over time, culminating in a definitive “breaking point” at the age of nine. It was in this moment, not out of fear of damnation, but out of a desperate desire for genuine connection, that he officially gave his life to Christ. He had made a choice not to be just another “church member, pew sitter, or holiday member,” but to embark on a quest to “know God for himself”. This single, foundational decision forged the trajectory for his entire life, linking the unsatisfied hunger of a nine-year-old boy to the focused mission of the man he is today.

The hand of God in human form

The spiritual journey of a life is rarely a solo one. For Ezekiel, God’s divine hand began to move through two key individuals who understood the depth of his unspoken longing. The first was his mother, who ensured “the right people were in my life so that I could be spiritually formed”. It was a pivotal, unseen force that set him on his path.

This maternal guidance led him to his spiritual father and mentor, Dr. Kenneth Hammond. Dr. Hammond, in a letter, vividly recalled Ezekiel’s mother telling him how her son had set up a “pulpit in the living room” to preach to the family. This moment was not just a passing anecdote; it was an early sign of a God-given call that Dr. Hammond recognized and helped to cultivate. This intentional guidance was precisely what Ezekiel felt was missing from his earlier experiences, and it provided the framework for his spiritual development. On January 24, 2014, Ezekiel preached his initial sermon at Union Baptist Church in front of more than 1,000 people and was licensed to ministry. His relationship with Dr. Hammond, even ten years later, remains a source of “wisdom, direction, guidance, and understanding,” a constant challenge to be “spiritually connected”. 

The Divine Intersection of Intellect and Intuition

Ezekiel’s journey reveals a man uniquely positioned at the intersection of spiritual depth and technological ingenuity. He is, in his own words, gifted with a spiritual sense he calls a “mixture of both discernment and prophecy, where God reveals things about people, events, and situations. This intuitive sense is married to a formidable intellect that seeks to apply modern solutions to timeless spiritual problems. As Dr. Kenneth Hammond stated, Ezekiel possesses a genuine passion for preaching and for reaching people on the “margins” who are not being reached by “traditional ways”. The use of technology, according to Dr. Hammond, is for him the “epitome of ministry”.

This is a recurring theme. Pastor John Russell, the Senior Pastor of Triumphant Church, describes him as not merely an innovator, but a man with a “strategic, ingenious, and analytical mind” that brings new ideas to the ministry. Russell observes that Ezekiel’s approach is to “adapt and evolve with the changing landscape of ministry”. This is not a simple adoption of new tools; it is a deep-seated commitment to leveraging technology for spiritual ends. He is seen as a “change agent” and a “catalyst” who consistently and effectively drives growth.

Ezekiel details the practical application of this unique blend of gifts. As a “Digital Media Specialist” at Union Baptist Church, he designed and developed a branding book that became a training tool for others, demonstrating his strategic foresight. He managed social media platforms to increase engagement and created video promotions that expanded the church’s reach beyond its physical walls. This work was not just about marketing; it was about ministry, using technical skill to engage new audiences and communicate the gospel more effectively.

Ezekiel Taylor’s leadership in the Youth Ministry at Union Baptist Church resulted in exponential growth, with attendance for youth services rebuilding to an average of 100 participants every Sunday. He was responsible for discipling and shepherding between 300 and 400 youth members church-wide. He also successfully created a safe space for youth to worship and embrace God’s spirit freely. Additionally, he spearheaded and implemented all major annual children and youth ministry events, including Harvest Fest and Easter celebrations.

Later, as a Senior Advisor at Genesis 128 (formerly Uniting People Church Consulting), he developed a “Fast Track BluePrint” to help churches revitalize or develop their “Next Generation Ministries from scratch”. This wasn’t a corporate project; it was a solution born from his own childhood experience of spiritual hunger. He is now building the very spaces and systems he once longed for—places where young people can find a genuine, deep connection to God. Pastor Aaron Terrell Green echoes this, noting that Ezekiel has a “heart for community,” and his willingness to use “various outlets” has created a “positive ripple effect,” strengthening and impacting local communities and the Kingdom of God. His ability to be a “team player, a problem solver and problem poser” is not merely a professional strength; it is a spiritual gift applied to the needs of the church in the 21st century.

The Purposeful Path Forward

The narrative of a life is never a finished work. It is an ongoing journey of refinement and growth. Ezekiel’s story is no different. He speaks with remarkable honesty about his “growing edges” and his conscious decision to transform his character. His overall goal is to “serve God” by serving others, and he considers his presence in ministry as an obligation to that end, even when it conflicts with other desires.

This ongoing transformation is reflected in his relentless pursuit of holiness and service. He recognizes that when he lacks dedication in these areas, he loses his focus, creativity, and the ability to hear God’s voice clearly. His overall goal is to “serve God” by serving others, and he considers his presence in ministry as an obligation to that end, even when it conflicts with other desires.

This journey of a soul, from a spiritual seeker in the living room to a technical and spiritual innovator, is far from over. Ezekiel is acutely aware that his current work in media and youth ministry is “not my final destination” and that God is using this opportunity to “groom me spiritually for more”. It is a life being purposefully built, brick by emotional, intellectual, and spiritual brick. The culmination of this journey is not in a resume, but in the words of his mentor, Dr. Kenneth Hammond, who offers a powerful final reflection on Ezekiel’s future: “I predict that in future years many congregations will look back to the work and ministry of Ezekiel Taylor as pivotal in their success”. It is a prophetic and weighty statement that seals his story, not as a chapter that has ended, but as one that has only just begun.

Beyond his work in local churches, Ezekiel has partnered with numerous ministries, providing media consulting, production services, and strategic planning to enhance their outreach and engagement. He has successfully developed church communication systems, led social media marketing efforts, and implemented strategies that elevate churches’ visibility and impact. Holding a Bachelor of Theology from Apex School of Theology and a Master of Divinity from Regent University, he combines theological depth with practical expertise.

 Whether through teaching, preaching, discipleship, media innovation, or leadership training, Ezekiel remains committed to equipping churches with the tools they need to grow and inspire their communities.
